Irby Esco Russell

July 17, 1923 — April 30, 2014

Rev. Irby Esco Russell passed away April 30, 2014. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church and served for many years as visiting minister to the sick in the community. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and member of the Freemasons. Preceded in death by parents, Sherman and Pearlie Russell; son, Arlin Mayes; brothers, Willard (Ruby) and Orvis; sisters, Ora (Rufus) Widner, Opal (Jim) Wallace. Survived by wife, Mossie Mayes Russell; daughter, Patricia (Bruce) Fisher; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Mayes; grandchildren, Michael (Karen) Mayes, Douglas Mayes, Faith Fisher and Russell Fisher; great-grandchildren, Elliot Grace Halpern and Benjamin Fisher Halpern; sister, Lenore Walker; sister-in-law, Onalee Russell. Grandsons and nephews will serve as Pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Salem Baptist Church Building Fund, 8201 Hill Road, Knoxville, TN 37938, (865) 922-3400 or the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284. Family will receive friends 1-3pm Saturday with Funeral Service to follow at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel, Rev. John Holland and Rev. Jackie Day, officiating. Family and friends will proceed to Lynnhurst Cemetery for entombment service.
