Iona Sue Spencer Chesney

Iona Sue Spencer Chesney age 80 of Corryton, TN entered into eternal rest on June 7^th, 2023. Waiting to welcome her was her husband of 53 years, James Carroll Chesney; daughter, Pamela Marie Chesney Stanifer; her parents Rev. James "Edd" Spencer and Conilee Texas Ramsey Spencer; brothers, John Spencer, and Jim Spencer; and sister, Barbara June Perkey. Waiting to join her again; son Byron (Mary) Chesney; daughter Jennifer (Jon) White; son Josh (Amanda) Chesney; grandchildren Daniel (Casey) Stanifer, Amy Stanifer, Jessica (Martin) Childress, Matthew and Elizabeth Chesney, Isaac, Jonathan, David and Luke White, Chris, Ruthie, Logan, and Ember Chesney; great grandchildren Polly, Lilith, Samael Stanifer. Four siblings; Phyllis Parks, William Spencer (Joyce), Mary Williams (Stanley), and Ronald Spencer (Patsy), several nieces and nephews.

Sue graduated from Holston High School in 1961 then married her sweetheart, Carroll. They raised a family together in their home on Maloneyville Road. Sue had many interests and hobbies. She loved to sing, sew, put on tea parties, shop, and go out to eat with her sisters. She was best known for her southern cooking skills. Sue became an LPN in 1982 and worked at St. Mary's Medical Center and Hillcrest Nursing Home until she retired. After retirement she worked a few years at Corryton Elementary school in the cafeteria. Church was a big part of Sue's life. She loved to sing, teach, decorate, and coordinate fellowships. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church.

Family will receive friends at Highland Baptist Church, Babelay Rd on Friday June 9^th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a celebration of life and funeral service immediately following. Rev. Byron Chesney and Rev. Jon White officiating. Family and friends will meet at Washington Pike Cemetery Saturday June 10^th at 10:45 for an 11:00 graveside service. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Stanifer, and Chester DeMarcus. Online condolences may be expressed at mynattfh.com
