Ida Roberts Skelton was born a little over 103 years ago in Wears Valley in Sevier County on December 19, 1911. Her parents were James Mark and Eliza Lawson Roberts. She lived most of her life in the Knoxville area, moving to Chattanooga to be near her daughter in 1998. She passed away Monday, March 9 in a Chattanooga nursing home. She was dedicated Christian and an active Baptist Sunday School teacher and church worker as long as health permitted. She was a loving wife, mother and business woman. She and her husband enjoyed traveling, especially after retiring from their business. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joel (Joe) W. Skelton; her brothers, Frank and Fred Roberts; and sisters, Jennie Headrick and Blanche Phelps. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty & Charles Eugene Brewer, and one niece and one nephew and several great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Central Baptist Church of Fountain City, Ridgedale Baptist Church in Chattanooga, where she was a member of the Lydia-Joy Sunday School Class, or the Betty Skelton Brewer Scholarship Fund at Belmont University, 1900 Belmont Blvd, Nashville, TN 37212 or a charity of the donor’s choice. Family and friends will meet Thursday at 1:45pm at Greenwood Cemetery for a 2pm graveside service, Rev. Ron Mouser officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Wednesday at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel
