Ida Mae Powell, age 94, of Knoxville, TN passed away Monday, October 28, 2024, at 3:35pm at Parkwest Medical Center.

The Best Reunion

Ida Powell was the last living member of a very, very large family… she grew up as one of thirteen children and over the years there were many nieces and nephews! A few months ago, some of Ida’s children were excited to begin planning a surprise reunion for this October that would include all of her immediate family and the surviving nieces and nephews from the extended family. But God had other plans…they were much bigger and better plans. And so an even more wonderful reunion occurred in His time on October 28 when God took Ida all the way Home to join her parents and husband, Carl and son, Wayne, and all of those twelve siblings: Rob, Pearl, Lily, Mary (Sis), Margie, Tom, Chet, Lee, Florence, Oscar, Arthur and Herman along with so many others that had gone before from the long heritage of a family who loved our Lord and Savior.

A Life Faithful and True

Ida Mae Powell was born on July 7, 1930 to Tom and Della Williams on the family farm in Mascot. She lived all of her life here in the Knoxville area. Ida and her husband, Carl Daniel Powell, raised six children. After her husband passed away in 1985, Ida’s deep love for Jesus became a stronger and stronger foundation of faith and prayer for her children. The family grew together in love for each other and have stayed close through all life brings for better or worse. And they have always loved talking and laughing together, often in Ida’s home! Ida leaves her children, Linda, Danny, Cheryl, Teresa and David, along their spouses and eleven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. 

Immediate family and close friends will meet up on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at 12:45 PM at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for a 1:00pm graveside service with Louis E. Branch officiating (3176 Airport Highway, Alcoa, TN).

Only one life, ’twill soon be past,

Only what’s done for Christ will last.

And when I am dying, how happy I’ll be,

If the lamp of my life has been burned out for Thee.
