Hoyt Gene Bell

July 10, 1937 — March 21, 2016

Hoyt Gene Bell, age 78, passed away March 21, 2016. He practiced law for 53 years, and was chairman of the Knox County Election Commission from 1979 to 1991. He was graduate of the Tennessee School for the Blind in Donelson, TN, where he wrote articles for the Tennesseans. He is graduate of the University of Tennessee and the University of Tennessee School of Law where he received his J.D. He was a member of Knoxville Elks Lodge #160, Burington Masonic Lodge #760. He was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Bell; mother of the children, Eva J. Bell; parents, Roy and Virgie Bell; brother, Roy Bell; and sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and William McDaniel. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 50 years, Dorotha “Dottie” Bell; son, Gene E. Bell, of Knoxville; daughter, Terry (Bell) Allen and husband Kent, of Rockledge, Florida; step-son, Charleston (Sport) Boles Jr., of Knoxville; grandsons, Matthew and Travis Allen, of Rockledge, Florida; nephew, Dale McDaniel, of Knoxville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dante Baptist Church Building Fund, American Cancer Society, or Young-Williams Animal Shelter. Funeral services will be 7pm Thursday at Dante Baptist Church. Friends and family will meet at 1:45pm Friday at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel and proceed to Highland Memorial Park for interment services at 2:30pm.
