Howard Glen Hensley was born October 5, 1940 to parents James Ira Hensley and Ethel Helton Corum. He passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2022 with his wife and daughters by his side.
He was one of four brothers, who were his best friends. They enjoyed fishing and dirt track racing. He and his brothers had a bond that was unbreakable. He loved the sport of softball. He spent many years coaching both of his daughter’s recreational softball league teams. He then went on to play softball as an adult and in later years watching both of his granddaughters take up the sport that he loved. You could find him sitting in the bleachers cheering them on, and occasionally offering advice on how to hit and catch. He was also quick to tell you that he had a granddaughter that graduated from the University of Alabama and one that graduated from the University of Tennessee. He wore both Alabama and Tennessee hats to represent them. After graduating from Central High School, he worked as a barber, working beside his step-father. He then worked at Bomar’s Furniture and later working and retiring from Fisher Tire Company in Fountain City. You could rarely go out in public without him stopping to talk to a customer from Fisher’s. He was the most gentle and kind-hearted man who loved his family and his dog, Buddy, dearly.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, James Ira Hensley and Ethel Helton Corum; brothers, James (Gib) Hensley, Kenneth Hensley and Eddie Corum; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Vernon and Louise Johnson; step-father, Willis Corum; aunt, Hazel Graves; sister-in-law, Barbara Hensley; brother-in-law, William Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Denise Hensley; two daughters, Kim and Ronnie Pitts, and Paige and Mark Rinehart; granddaughters, Kristin Cruise (Matt Sine) and Macee Rinehart; sister-in-law, Carol Corum; sisters-in-law, Brenda Johnson, Sandra and Donnie Humphrey, Pam and Harold Botts, Sheila and Howard Moon; brother-in-law, Rodney and Lena Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Buddy, who never left his side. Buddy would always sit at his feet and wait for him to patiently finish dinner. Buddy always knew that he got the last bite. Special friends, Bob and Linda Fisher and the employees of Fisher Tire Company.
