Hobart Allen “Jack” French, age 94, of Knoxville, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025, after a brief illness. He was born to his late parents, Dewey McKinley French and Katherine Olivia Grigsby French. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Marian Delories (Lett) French, brother, Louis, and sister, Elsie.
Jack is Survived by his daughter, Marlene F. Hawkins (Tim), son, David French (Tammie), granddaughters: Genny Russell (Terry Dean) and Katherine Mifflin (Matt); grandson, Jared (Tamarin), great-granddaughter, Lainey Russell, great-grandson, Miles Mifflin, and several nieces and nephews.
Jack was born in Knoxville, and a graduate of Halls High School. He was a plumber by trade but had a love for plants and flowers. He built from scratch a greenhouse and opened a business named French’s Flower Farm. He could quickly be described by all who knew him as a hardworking man. No job was too big for Jack, and he most often tackled the task by himself. Jack and Marian not only loved flowers but loved their church and were dedicated teachers and leaders, encouraging and leading youth, which was a passion for them. They left a positive impact on so many young lives. Jack was also a deacon, choir member and Sunday School director at Sharon Baptist Church. Jack served in the Korean conflict and spent time in Iceland. He was a dedicated family man who willing provided for his family. Grandaddy Jack also known as Genie Jack, was someone to always count on. Much appreciation for the kind and caring staff at both Tennova North 3rd Floor and Sacred Ground Hospice.
Friends and family may call at their convenience on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. A service will be held for family starting at 1:00 pm with Rev. Mark McCoig and Rev. Jim Robertson officiating. A private burial following the service at Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers are appreciated, however in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jack’s honor to Sharon Baptist Church Continuing the Legacy Campaign https://sharonknoxville.churchcenter.com/giving .
