Hiram Max Merritt

April 12, 1929 — August 9, 2017

Hiram Max Merritt, age 88, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2017. He was a long-time member of Fountain City Presbyterian church, where he served as Deacon, Elder, Sunday School Teacher, Super-intendent, and Church Treasurer. He was a life-time resident of East Tennessee and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He earned a MS from U.T. and for 20 years was an Accountant for Appalachian National Life Insurance Company. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Annette Myers Merritt; son Bryan Merritt (Allison) of Erwin, TN; Daughter Amy O’Dell (Bobby) of Knoxville, TN; Grandchildren Jordan and Adrienne O’Dell and Benjamin Merritt; several Myers brothers and sisters; many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at their convenience at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel on Friday from 10am-4pm. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 am, Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery for a graveside service at 11am, Rev. Ann Bunger officiating. Memorials may be made to Fountain City Presbyterian Church, 500 Hotel Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37918.
