Helmon Cavin “Wax” Smith, age 94, of Knoxville, passed away July 15, 2017. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, proudly serving his country in World War II on the Pacific Theater. He retired from the K-25 plant in Oak Ridge after 35 years of service. He was a devoted and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Evelyn Smith; sons, Douglas Darrell Smith and Ronald Gene Smith; parents, Sam & Louise Smith; and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Smith Duncan and husband, Edwin Duncan III; long-time special friend, Grace Roberto; grandchildren, Shawn Graham, Jennifer Graham Omahen, Christopher Graham, Eric Smith, Melissa Smith D’Cruz, Brendan Smith, Lee Ann Smith Vasquez, Missy Smith Mitchell, Paula Smith; step grandson, Benjamin Edwin Duncan; and numerous great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30pm Tuesday at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel, with service to follow at 7:30pm. Officiating the service will be his nephew, Rev. Scott Smith. Family and friends will meet at 10:45am Wednesday at Carpenter’s Campground Cemetery in Maryville, Tennessee for graveside service at 11am, with full military honors.
