Witt, Helen Lucille Hill, 82, of Knoxville, died on July 25, 2014. She was a member of Clear Springs Baptist Church in Corryton. She loved to read, garden, cook and bake. Her friends and family enjoyed all her cooking, especially her chocolate pies and chicken and dumplings. She loved short visits to the beach but delighted in returning to her East Tennessee mountains. Her ideal trip was a day-long drive through the Smokies with return to home by bedtime. She was proud to be a Tennessean, a Baptist, a Republican and a Hill-family descendent. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter W. Witt; her parents, Elvin and Mary (Maggie) Hill; and her sister, Marie Brantley. She is survived by her son, Timothy Mark Witt, Knoxville; daughter, Patricia Witt Hackler and husband, Dr. Robert Hackler of Richmond, VA; granddaughter, Paige Bates Hackler of Charlottesville, VA; granddaughter, Dr. Ashley Hill Hackler Freeman and husband Anthony Freeman of Richmond, VA; great-granddaughter, Catherine Marie Freeman, Richmond, VA; brother, James Savage, Lafollette, TN; and long-time devoted friend, Edith Richardson, Maynardville, TN. The family thanks Dr. Cassandra Gibbs, Summit Medical Group, and the staff of Arbor Terrace Assisted Living for years of expert compassionate care.The family will receive friends 5:00 – 7:00 pm Friday, August 1st at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel, immediately followed by a funeral service officiated by the Rev. Dr. Damon Patterson, Knoxville, and the Rev. Hardy Tippett, Lake Junaluska, NC. Family and friends will meet 10:45 am Saturday at New Loyston Cemetery, Union County for 11:00 am interment. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends of the Smokies, P.O. Box 1660, Kodak, TN 37764-7660, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to preserve and protect the Smokies.
