Helen Gentry Longmire

August 4, 1923 — September 16, 2022

Helen Gentry Longmire, born August 4, 1923, to Steiner and Lizzie Gentry, went home to be with her Lord Friday evening, September 16, 2022. Helen and her husband, Buford, were active and faithful members of Central Baptist Church of Fountain City since 1948 and made many lifelong friendships there. Many may remember Helen working for First Presbyterian Church as the Business Manager for over 25 years. She loved yard work and gardening, extending her interest to the meticulous upkeep and care of the ancient church cemetery. She found pride in her beautiful and well manicured flowers and extensive yard. She and her husband, Buford, collectors of antiques, became fixtures in the Knoxville antique community. After retirement they took their love of antiques, opened an antique mall, and conducted countless estate sales, which Helen continued well into her 80’s. She is preceded in death by her parents, Steiner Gerome and Lizzie Merritt Gentry, her husband of 64 years, Buford Eugene Longmire, Sr., her son, Paul Edward Longmire, her six beloved brothers and sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews. We are certain that there has been a glorious reunion in Heaven. She is survived by her son, Gene Longmire (Karlyce), daughters, Marta Longmire Turner (Larry) and Jodi Longmire (Mike Kiser), grandchildren, Jessica Longmire Gentry (Sam), Brian Longmire (Melissa), Jeremy Longmire, Matt Turner (Christy), Lara Turner Dennison (Brian), Drew Longmire (Kristy), Tony Longmire (Lauren), Rebekah Longmire Griffin (Justin), numerous nieces, nephews, and 13 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank those at NHC Holston that cared for Helen, Caris Hospice, and special appreciation to her roommate and good friend, Linda Taylor, who watched over her so well. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 7, 2022 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel. Family and friends will meet 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel to leave in procession for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service with Rev. Josh Beeler officiating. Pallbearers; Gene Longmire, Larry Turner, Mike Kiser, Matthew Turner, Brian Longmire, Jeremy Longmire, Drew Longmire and Tony Longmire. Honorary Pallbearers; Jerry Baer, Tim Dalton, Tim Lawson, John Longmire and Warren Longmire. Online condolences can be left at mynattfh.com.
