Harold Eugene “Gene” Mynatt, Jr. of Knoxville, TN, passed away on July 27, 2023. He was born July 12, 1952 in Knoxville, TN and is preceded in death by his loving wife of 35 years, Janet Sharpin Mynatt and daughter, Michelle “Micki” Mynatt.
Gene was raised by his mother, the late Virginia Thomas Mynatt Jenkins and stepfather Frank Jenkins (Brenda), along with his father, the late Harold Eugene “Bud” Mynatt and stepmother, the late Bettie Nix Mynatt.
Gene will be missed by his surviving siblings, Paul Mynatt (Betsy), Patricia McCrary (the late Terry) and Tracey Jenkins Whitt. He is also preceded in death by his stepbrothers, Tom Jenkins (Teresa) and Todd Jenkins (Audrey). He was loved by his dear in-laws, the late George and Grace Sharpin, Richard Sharpin (Martha), the late Donald Sharpin (Cynthia) and Pam Spencer. Gene was a dear nephew to Margaret Thomas and the late Jack Thomas. He was a loving uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend to many.
Gene graduated from Young High School, Knoxville in 1970, where he was a member of the football team. After graduation, he and his wife, Janet moved to Davie, Florida where they built a successful pool renovation company, Ultimate Pools. They attended First Baptist at Weston Church and volunteered in the Awana Youth Program. He and Janet also enjoyed fishing and camping at Belle Glade Campground on Lake Okeechobee, FL. Gene was a lifelong and avid Tennessee Volunteer football fan. He will be remembered by family and friends for his loving heart and kind soul who was willing to help anyone in need.
Graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at 10am at the Bell’s Campground Cemetery in Powell, Tennessee. Pastor Dana L. Fachman will officiate. To honor Gene’s love for Tennessee Volunteer football, the family asks that those who attend wear clothing to show your Volunteer spirit. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gene’s memory may be made to Autism Breakthrough of Knoxville or The University of Tennessee Cancer Institute. Online condolences may be left at www.mynattfh.com
