Hardy Otto Johnson, Jr., (Knoxville), born July 12, 1928, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024, with his son and daughter-in-law, by his side. Hardy served in Korea in the Army and was in active service during the Korean War. After returning home from his service in 1953, he was the owner of Custom Shoe Rebuilders in Fountain City, where he loved his customers and friends that stopped in to see him regularly, and he enjoyed greeting them daily at the shop until his final days. Hardy was also known as the Honorary Mayor of Fountain City, former Fountain City Man of the Year, and Grand Marshal of the Fountain City Christmas Parade. Hardy attended Bethel Baptist Church. Hardy is preceded in death by his mother, Augusta Wells Johnson, his father Hardy Otto Johnson, Sr., and his first wife, Mary Johnson. He is also preceded in death by his second wife, Maggie Satterfield Johnson, and stepson, Joe Satterfield. Hardy was preceded in death in September by his special companion, Shiloh, the pup whom he had loved and cared for the last thirteen years. Hardy is survived by his son Jimmy (Teresa) Johnson, grandson Justin (Amanda) Johnson, great granddaughter Olive James “O.J.” Johnson, and his stepdaughter, Kathy Satterfield. He also leaves behind special family friend Doug Ashe. The family would like to express their appreciation and special thanks to UT Hospice for taking such good care of him, and treating him as if he was family, and particularly very special family friend Kim Babb, with UT Hospice, who went beyond her call of duty in his final weeks. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 28th, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel, and will have graveside service Friday, March 29th, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Fort Sumter Community Cemetery, Knoxville, Tennessee.
