Gregory Lee Dunsmore

May 4, 1968 — September 4, 2013

Gregory Lee Dunsmore, age 45 of Corryton, passed peacefully from our presence into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Greg was honored to be an officer with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and a member of the Blue Knights. He was also a member of Clear Springs Baptist Church where he previously played bass guitar for the choir, worked with the youth, and enjoyed mission work. Greg had a great love of music joining the Singing Dunsmores at the age of 14 as bassist traveling throughout the southeast to share God’s message of love and redemption through song. He is preceded in death by father, Rev. Lonnie Dunsmore; mother, Bobbie Dunsmore; brother, Rev. Glen Dunsmore and sister, Helen Cupp. He leaves to mourn his passing loving and devoted wife, Brenda. He was proud to be Dad to sons of his heart, Wesley and Jonathan Hawkins. He will be sadly missed by sisters, Brenda (Jeff) Taylor, Karen (Alan) Beal, Teresa (Robert) Garland, Velma (Claude) Killion, and Susie (Charlie) Cox; brothers, Mike (Becky) Beeler, Ray (Stephanie) Dunsmore, James (Sandy) Dunsmore, Bob (Blanch) Dunsmore, Rev. Hollis (Mary) Dunsmore, and Loy Dunsmore; mother-in-law, Edna O’Connor, grandmother-in-law, Irene Jones; sisters-in-law, LeeAnn (Barry) Killion and Peggy Dunsmore; brother-in-law, Rev. Blaine Cupp; along with many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncle, and his canine companions, Lucy and Diesel. Greg leaves behind faithful and loving friend, Shannon Cox, along with the many friends he was blessed with during his short time here. The family wishes to extend our most heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff of doctors, nurses, and social workers at Vanderbilt Medical Center, our loving and supportive church families, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, and our many friends and prayer partners that have supported us through this journey. Funeral service 6:00 pm Sunday at Clear Springs Baptist Church (Thompson School Road) with Rev. Jerry Vittitoe and Rev. Dallas Harrell officiating. Family and friends will meet 9:30 am Monday at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel and proceed to Emory Pike American Christian Church Cemetery for 10:00 am interment. Pallbearers: Shannon Cox, Chris Beeler, Mark Mink, Les Mullins, Jim Pemberton, Tim Barrett, Bob White, and Ernie Bowman. Honorary Pallbearers: Officers of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. As his last loving gesture, Greg’s family is proud of and finds comfort in knowing Greg desired to be an organ donor. His selflessness will provide clear sight to someone in need and also benefit neonatal pediatric heart patients. In lieu of flowers, it was Greg’s request that memorials be made to Clear Springs Baptist Church Friends of Mission Fund, 8518 Thompson School Road, Corryton, TN 37721 or the Lieutenant David Moody Employee Assistance Fund, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, c/o Chief Brian Bivens, 400 Main Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37902.
