Gregory Arrants Mcguire

January 12, 1963 — October 10, 2021

Gregory Arrants McGuire passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at the age of 58. He was born in Sweetwater, TN on January 12, 1963 and was the son of Howard and Louise McGuire. He graduated from TMI Academy and from Tennessee Wesleyan College before working with his dad for more than 20 years at McGuire Jewelers in downtown Sweetwater. When his dad retired, Greg transitioned to a new career and excelled in the auto sales business, primarily working at Airport Honda and most recently, becoming a member of the Grayson Subaru “family”. Greg was extremely active throughout his life, spending summers growing up at the lake and riding motorcycles. At TMI, he played football and baseball, and after graduating college, earned his pilot’s license and became quite a respectable golfer. He then began to focus on honing his talent on the guitar, playing with the Sunday Morning Light Band at Concord United Methodist Church and around town with Tommy Santelli and The Tommy Santelli Band at local restaurants and events. His love of playing guitar was a mainstay over the years, and he enjoyed “duets” with his 3 year old granddaughter- he on his guitar and she, “strumming” on hers. His latest activities also included biking and kayaking, but his passion was hiking the Great Smoky Mountains. He knew the trails inside and out, and he never missed an opportunity to share the wonders of the mountains. Greg was immensely proud of his two children, Tucker McGuire and Annslea McGuire, whom he leaves behind along with his granddaughter, Holland, who he adored beyond words. He is also survived by his best friend and former spouse of 28 years, Terri McGuire, and brother, Dan McGuire, all of Knoxville. We will miss his kind and gentle heart, and his sense of adventure. A small family memorial service will be held along with a hike in the Great Smoky Mountains to celebrate and honor his life.
