Gary R. Carpenter, age 66, of Powell, TN, died January 27, 2014. Gary was a baptized believer in Jesus. He graduated from Central High School, Knoxville, and served in the US Air Force, Dyess AFB, Abilene, TX. He was a graduate of Walters State Community College. He proudly served Knoxville as a policeman and a member of the Blue Hawks motorcycle squad. Gary was preceded in death by father, Reece Carpenter; mother and step-father, Margaret and Joe Bell; and infant sister, Annie Kate Carpenter. Gary leaves his close friend and caregiver, Debbie Austin. He is survived by three sons, Brian and wife Wendy Carpenter, Bo Carpenter, and Gary “Bubba” and wife Misty Carpenter. He leaves four grandchildren, Dylan, Caylee, Cole and Max Carpenter. Gary is also survived by his sisters and their families, Carolynn and Mike Cate, Becky and Mike Collins. Gary’s family wishes to express their admiration and appreciation to each of Gary’s brothers in the “blue line” who provided support through his recent illness and hospitalization. Funeral service 7:30pm Thursday at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel, Rev. Dr. Jerry W. Taylor, officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:30am Friday and proceed to Anderson-Gouffon Cemetery for 11am interment service, with honors. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Family will receive friends 6-7:30pm Thursday at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel.
