Gary Clayton Day

Gary Clayton Day, age 80, of Knoxville passed away on Friday, November 23, 2018. He graduated from Central High School in 1956 and served our nation for twenty years in the United States Navy, retiring as Chief Petty Officer. He was a faithful member of Gillespie Avenue Baptist Church. He was a loving dad to three children, Brian Day, Michael (Teresa) Day, and Sharon (Korey) Mikkola, granddad to six grandchildren, Leslie Day, Lindsey (Aaron) Thomas, Marissa Mikkola, Derek Mikkola, Ethan Mikkola, and Emily Mikkola, brother to Suzette (Ron) Allen, and uncle to several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents Earl Day and Eunice Day McMahan, and sisters Donna Atwood and Mary Kathryn Mills. Family will receive friends from 5:00pm until 7:00pm Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Gillespie Avenue Baptist Church with funeral service starting at 7:00pm with Reverend Wayne Hubbs officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45am Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Greenwood Cemetery for an 11:00am interment. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Thompson Cancer Survival Center, Fort Sanders Infusion Center, and Fort Sanders ICU for the care they provided.
