Gaines Sterling Arnold

May 24, 1926 — February 2, 2018

Gaines Sterling Arnold, born May 24, 1926 in Powell Station, Tennessee to Frank and Lodusky Kitts Arnold. He was a member of Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church until its closing. He was a World War II veteran, who served in the Army (Germany, France, Belgium). He worked for Unisys Corporation (Burroughs) for 30 years, then ORNL for 10 years. He is preceded by his parents, wife Paulyne Baer Arnold, mother-in-law Martha Baer, sisters and brothers-in-law: Gladys M. and William Mercer, Helen F. and James Ludlow, Trula M. and H.H. Manis Jr., Charles Baer; and nephews Austin Mann and Gordon Baer. Gaines is survived by brother and sister-in-law Richard H. and Lucy Arnold; nieces: Gail Ludlow, Emily and Gordon Smith and family, Debbie Arnold, Judy and Bob Caulder and family; and nephew: Jerry and Sandy Baer. The family will receive friends from 4:30pm to 6:00pm Monday at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel. Family and friends will meet by 1:45pm Tuesday at Greenwood Cemetery for a 2:00pm graveside service. Pastor Carl Oaks officiating. Special thanks to the staff at Maple Court of Powell.
