Frank Dean Lively of Powell, TN passed away on January 18, 2023 at the age of 93. Frank was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was the 7th of nine children. Stella, Dillard, Mable, Gertrude, Roscoe, Jack, Frank, Pearl and Alvis Jr – a remarkable and loving family, we list their names as they are not to be forgotten.
On July 13, 1929, Frank was born at his home in Oliver Springs, TN to the late Alvis Lively and Ruth Fritts Lively. He attended Coalfield Elementary School of Morgan County and graduated from Oliver Springs High School in 1947. He started work at the original Tennessee Mill & Mine Supply Company in Knoxville right out of school.
Frank married the love of his life Yvonne Chapman Lively on June 2, 1950. Yvonne was the center of Frank’s life until her passing March 9, 2018. They were inseparable. We take comfort in knowing that after a brief time apart they have reunited in Heaven. Frank and Yvonne were baptized together on March 16, 1958 at Beaumont Avenue Baptist Church. They later attended Cumberland Baptist Church and then Wallace Memorial Baptist Church.
Frank was very proud of his military service and his employment at the Y-12 complex in Oak Ridge. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and reported for duty in February 1952. After basic training he was sent to Germany for a short period of time and then he was stationed in France. He returned from active duty in 1954. Corporal Frank Lively was honorably discharged in 1960.
Frank went to work at the Y-12 complex in 1954 upon returning from Europe. He worked for Union Carbide which later became Martin Marietta Energy Systems. He was a machinist, planner & estimator, and supervisor. Frank was credited with 35 years, 11 months and 17 days of continuous service when he retired in February, 1990.
In his retirement Frank enjoyed golfing, fishing and wood-working. He and Yvonne cherished the company of family and friends. Their home was always welcoming. As a self-described “bullshooter and cut-up,” Frank loved to reminisce and share his stories. He will be missed.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the many, many people who helped care for Frank in his later years which included his neighbors, Seniors Helping Seniors, Arbor Terrace of Knoxville and Lifecare Center of Blount County. So many wonderful people provided compassion and companionship for Frank. Thank you.
Also, the family would like to acknowledge the staff of the Tennessee State Veterans Home at Ben Atchley. The men and women who work at Ben Atchley are truly angels on earth. They show so much patience and kindness and so much love for all of the veterans in their care. For Frank and for every veteran you care for, thank you…thank you so very much for what you do and how much you give of yourself.
In a simple prayer we ask, “Our heavenly Father, please receive Frank Dean Lively that he will be reunited with his love Yvonne and his brothers and sisters, and his mother and father, in eternal joy, Amen.”
The family will receive friends 11:30am – 12:30pm Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel with graveside services to follow at 1:00pm at Greenwood Cemetery.
