Flonze Egbert (F.E.) Sorey born Febuary 28, 1928, age 90, of Knoxville, passed on Sunday, January 20, 2019.
He was a minister of the Baptist faith in both South Carolina and Tennessee for 20 years. Flonze operated a business at the corner of Dry Gap Pike and Emory Rd. for over 30 years. He flew a small aircraft and enjoyed continuing studies in theology. Flonze was a man of many interests such as hunting, fishing and sports, and also was equally oriented to both academics and athletics. Flonze graduated from Carson Newman and attended Southeastern Baptist Seminary. His ministry continued throughout his life through quietly and generously meeting the needs of those in his community.
Preceded in death by parents Rosa Lynch Sorey Brantley and Hillary Sorey.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years Yvonne H. Sorey; children Linda S. Noonkesser (David), Stanley F. Sorey (Jane), Pamela S. Clark and B. Paul Sorey (Ginger); extended family Vicki C. Wolinsky (Mark), K. Patrice Cox (Tom Schwartz); several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Flonze is also mourned by his much-loved cat Kibby.
Family will receive friends on Friday, January 25, 2019 at Sharon Baptist Church from 6:00pm to 7:30pm, a service to follow at 7:30pm, officiated by Rev. Larry Woods. Family and friends will meet at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 12:00pm to proceed to Sharon Baptist Cemetery for a 1:00pm interment. Active pallbearers include Stan Sorey, Paul Sorey, Chris Sorey, Jason Pedone, Mark Wolinsky, and James Paul Clark.
