Evert DeVente went home to his Lord surrounded by his family on June 20th, 2018. Born in Oegstgeest, Holland in 1944 and was raised in Ede, Holland. He was the third of eight children born to Gerrit and Janna DeVente. In 1957, the DeVente family immigrated to the United States, sponsored by the Fourth Presbyterian Church and settled in Knoxville. After graduating from Fulton High School, Evert served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Evert raised his seven children in the Fairview community of Anderson County. He was a very active member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist in Heiskell, where he served as a deacon and a volunteer missionary. Evert was proud to serve the Lord four times in Brazil and two times in Mexico, as well as, in Arizona and Ohio. Evert was preceded in death by his parents, Gerrit and Janna DeVente; brothers Gerrit DeVente and Jacob DeVente; sister Elisabeth McDermott. Evert is survived by his wife, Karen DeVente of Heiskell, children Shelly (Keith) Vandagriff of Clinton; Kristi Daniels of Knoxville; Lindsey (Brian) Stanley of Andersonville; Jason (Kylea) DeVente of Clinton; Emily DeVente of Heiskell; Kylie (Nick) Corrigan of Clinton; Valerie DeVente of Heiskell; sisters Janna DeVente and Corrie Loveday of Knoxville; brothers Jan DeVente of Johnson City, Simon Devente of Alcoa. Evert also leaves to celebrate his life 14 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren. The family will receive friends 2:00pm-4:00pm, Sunday, at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel with funeral service to follow at 4:00pm, with Rev. Tom Aiken officiating.
