Ersel Robert Underwood

Ersel Robert Underwood, age 89, went to be with the Lord on February 3, 2017. He was a lifelong resident of Corryton and a member of Corryton Baptist Church. He was a beloved husband, father, and Papaw, and a friend to everyone he met. A proud WWII Veteran of the United States Navy, he volunteered and served aboard the U.S.S. Dennis (Destroyer Escort) in the Pacific Theater including Ulithi, Japan, Okinawa, The Philippines, and New Guinea. After the war, he returned to Tennessee, attended business college and worked in the plants at Oak Ridge. He retired from Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company in 1992. Preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Anna Underwood, sister Alma, brothers Bruce, Leroy, Danny, and his beloved grandson Mack T. Underwood.Survived by his wife of more than 70 years, Edna Anderson Underwood, son Bob (Rose) Underwood, daughter Carol Lovin, grandchildren Bobby (Cindy)Underwood, Emily (Justin) Fee, and his adored great-grandchildren Laurel,Robby, Christopher, and Katie Underwood, Caroline and Abby Fee.The family will receive friends on Monday, Feb 6, from 5-7pm at Mynatt Funeral Home, 4131 E. Emory Road, Halls; Graveside service will be Tuesday, Feb 7 at Bakers Forge Cemetery, Demory Road; Lafollette; friends and family will assemble at 1:15 for a 1:30 service. Dr. Damon Patterson officiating. Military Honors will be provided by Volunteer State Honor Guard. The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Ben Atchley State Veterans' Home for their extraordinary kindness and care.
