Emma Lynn Carpenter Curtis, age 87, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Parkwest Hospital. She was a member of Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Powell for over 70 years, where she had taught Sunday School, VBS, and had been a member of the choir. Emma was a graduate of Powell High School, Class of 1954, and attended Lincoln Memorial University. She was married to Carl Curtis for 59 years until his death in 2015. She was a consummate homemaker. She loved to cook, shop, decorate, and do all the things to make a house a home. In their retirement years, Emma and Carl loved to spend time at their condo in Destin, Florida. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Curtis; parents, Dick and Rena Carpenter of Powell; and her grandson, Jason Curtis of Knoxville. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Tina Curtis of Chattanooga; son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Tammy Curtis of Knoxville; sister, Martha Petree of Knoxville; grandchildren, Allison (Eric) Snodderly of Knoxville and Jake (Emily) Curtis of Chattanooga; great-grandchildren, Colton and Logan Snodderly of Knoxville, and Claire and Maggie Curtis of Chattanooga; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to extend a special thank you to close friends and caregivers, Janet, Beverly, Carla, and Kathy. A graveside service will be held at Highland Memorial Cemetery on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Thomas Sweet officiating.
