Elsie Bailey Thomas, age 97, of Knoxville was carried home by her Heavenly Father on May 5, 2017. She was born on Saturday, March 20, 1920, to the late James and Pearl Bailey of Washburn, TN. She was the last living charter member of Pennington Chapel Baptist Church, her health kept her from going to church the past several years, but she loved the Lord with all her heart. She’s preceded in death by husband of 51 years, William Victor Thomas; brothers Austin and Elmer Bailey; and sons-in-law Ronald Bankston and Bill Irwin. She was a loving mother to Susan Bankston and Glenda Irwin and was Mamaw Tommie to Cody and Emma Cassell; they were the sparkle in her eye, and grandmother to her precious, loving granddaughter Heather Gill. She’s also survived by her sisters June Hill, Barbara Ingle and Jama Webb of Knoxville. She sadly leaves behind several sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to her caregivers Jean Richard and Sue Rutherford whom she loved greatly. She was a true friend and will be missed by all. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM, Friday, May 12, at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel with funeral service to follow at 8:00 pm, with Richard Nicely officiating. Family and friends will meet 11:45 am, Saturday, May 13, at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel and proceed to Boruff Cemetery, 535 Black Fox Rd, Washburn, TN, for interment at 1:00 pm.
