Elmer Joe Swiney, “EJ”, 73 years old of Knoxville, passed away on January 4, 2017, he fought a long battle with a multitude of health issues.
Elmer was born in Sneedville, TN on June 25, 1943. He graduated from Hancock County High School and continued to apprentice welding until reaching highest 6G level Certification.
Elmer was married to Dolores on December 1st. They were married for 51 years.
Elmer worked as a General Foreman and Superintendent for TVA as part of the Boilermakers Union Local #453. He enjoyed his grandchildren the most, beaches, golfing, and making people laugh. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #757 FMAM, and he was also actively involved as a member at Hilltop Baptist Church.
Elmer is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Henry and Kitty Swiney, brothers, TJ, Hugh Kyle, Mack, and sister Bobbie Bell.
Elmer is survived by wife Dolores, grandchildren, Hayley, Abbey, and Jase; sons, Joey and wife Ginger, Jason and wife Jen, brother, Pete Swiney, sisters, Volena Hughes and his twin Thelma Jean Yarbrough, and many nieces and nephews. Special nephew Greg Yarbrough, his kindred spirit. Too many special friends to name.
The family will receive friends 5:00 – 7:00 pm Friday at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel with funeral service to follow at 7:00 pm, Rev. Lee Strunk and Rev. Robert Simmons officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:15 am Saturday at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel and proceed to Greenwood Cemetery for 11:00 am interment. www.mynattfh.com
