Ellie Victoria Avila, 14, passed away on September 21, 2024, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. Born on February 13, 2010, to Elizabeth Hunley and Frank Matter. Ellie attended Oakdale School and Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was highly intelligent, spunky, blunt and had the biggest heart of all. Ellie had a boasting sense of humor and could be a real firecracker when it came to advocating for herself. She loved her family, animals and God. Despite her own battle, she always put others first. Ellie would make daily calls and send messages checking in with friends and family offering comfort and support even on her toughest days. She loved fiercely with everything she had and cared for others with all her might. Ellie’s selflessness and love inspired those around her and because of that her legacy lives on through the hearts she touched. The family would like to especially thank Ellie’s principal Misty Marsh, for all her love and support over the years.
Ellie is survived by her parents, Elizabeth Hunley and Frank Matter; grandmother, Vickie Shepherd; grandparents, Jacki and Duane Matter; aunt and uncle, Ariel and Elijah Hunley; sisters, Mackenzie and Camryn Matter; aunts, Kim Owens, Sherry Hughes and cousins, Justin Wells, Xavier and Haley Hughes, Harley Perkey and several other cousins. She was preceded in death by her aunt, Brenda Wells and cousin, Katelyn Garrett.
