Elizabeth Phelps Whaley, age 82, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021. Betty was a kind, wonderful, generous, wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law, grandmother, and great grandmother. She always went above and beyond to make sure everyone was comfortable and fed. She was a fabulous cook and absolutely loved doing it. She enjoyed music and was a fantastic dancer. Her and her husband danced everything from clogging, country line dancing, and ballroom dancing. She enjoyed gardening and reading. The house was full of love, music, and laughter. She worked in retail for many years. Prestige Cleaners, and Brenda’s Sportswear and more. She was the bravest of us all and will be missed greatly by all that had the blessing of knowing her. She was of the Christian Faith. Betty is preceded in death by mother and father, Ruth and Dane Phelps; father and mother-in-law, JC and Carrie Whaley; son, Michael Whaley; grandparents, Millie B. and Elmer Elkins; brothers-in-law, David, Gene, and Buddy; sister-in-law, Libby. She is survived by husband of 57 years, James Whaley; daughter, Kathy Sharp (Leon York); grandchildren, Kate Greene (Jarad H.), Rowan Sharp (Ali D.); great grandchildren, Micah, Rhonin, and Bellamy; brother, William G. Phelps, brother-in-laws, Gary Whaley, Mike Whaley; sister-in-laws, Linda Whaley, Martha (Tim) Munsey, Mary (John) Morgan, and Janice Whaley; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Family will receive friends 5:00-7:00pm, Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel with service to follow at 7:00pm.
