Eleanor Hodge Carpenter peacefully passed on December 22, 2021 at the age of 82, surrounded by her loving family. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, H.B. Carpenter; her parents, Ernest C. and Stella C. Hodge; brother, Ernest Hodge; and sisters, Betty Hodge Tucker and Ann Hodge Cook. She is survived by her sister, Frances Hodge Rose, sons, Scott Carpenter and Doug (Deanna) Carpenter; daughter, Traci Carpenter; grandchildren, Travis (Rebecca) Carpenter, Holly Carpenter and Miranda Carpenter; her precious granddaughters, Maddox and Eden Carpenter; and many nephews and nieces. Eleanor was born on April 6, 1939 in Middlesboro, Kentucky. She graduated from Knoxville Central High School in 1957 and the University of Tennessee in 1961. After a brief teaching career at Brickey Elementary School she became a stay-at-home mother, typing from home for a local court reporter. She eventually retired from Tanasi Girl Scout Council after 17 years of dedicated service. She was a longtime member of Salem Baptist Church in Halls, where she sang in the choir and taught children’s Sunday School for many years. She adored her animals throughout the years, enjoyed reading and sewing projects, and cherished the memories and time she spent night fishing on the family houseboat. She also enjoyed attending musical presentations at Salem and Halls High School, and she loved to work puzzles, often displaying them in her home. A Call of Convenience will be held Tuesday, December 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 29 at Lynnhurst Cemetery with Rev. Allen James officiating. Honorary pallbearers: H.T. Moyers, Greg Moyers, Charles Lovell, Chuck Lovell, Josh Johnson, Ray Ellis, and Ralph Eggleston.
