Edward Leon Smith, age 83, of Knoxville, passed away at his residence on April 1, 2014. He was retired owner of Smith and Northstar Coal Co. and City Bag and Burlap Co. He was a lifetime member, deacon, and choir director for Northside Baptist Church of Knoxville. Preceded in death by parents, Paul and Carrie Smith; sisters, Jo Ann Dunn and Lois Cardwell; sister-in-law, Judy Smith. He is survived by loving wife of 60 years, Ruth Smith; daughters, Sharon (Kevin) Horner, Becky (Tony) Mowdy, Lisa (Pat) Hickam; son, Ronnie (Kim) Smith; grandchildren, Jason (Niki) Horner, Brian Horner, Jeremy Mowdy, Sarah (Rodney) Hall, Leslie (Vincent) Bryant, Lauren (Ben) Watkins, Lindsey Smith, Matthew Hickam, Whitney (Bryan) Cruze and Paige Hickam; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Sylvia (Lane) Parkison; brothers, Allen “Buck” Smith and Thomas (Patsy) Smith. Funeral Service 8PM Thursday at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel, Rev. Jerry Vittatoe and Rev. David Cardwell officiating. Family and friends will meet 9:45AM Friday at Greenwood Cemetery for 10AM interment service. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Family will receive friends 6-8PM Thursday at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel.
