Edward E. Turner, born in Knoxville, TN January 29, 1947. Died November 1, 2020 at home with his daughters and second wife of 20 years, Sandra. Ed was the son of John Edward (Edd) Turner and Jewell Tarwater Baker Turner, brother to sisters, Vena and Rena, and Billie Jean, and step-brother to Jack and Sis. He retired from the military as a Senior Master Sargeant and non-comissioned officer, after nearly 25 years of service, first in the US Navy (as a Vietnam-era vet), followed by a short time in the US Coast Guard, and finally by a long-period of service in the Air National Guard, stationed at the 134th Air Refueling Wing, in Louisville, TN. It was during his time in the Navy that he became a trained and certified electrician, working on dry docks and submarines. He was also a long-time employee of Knoxville Utilities Board, where he worked as a lineman and troubleshooter. He made many life-long loyal friends at the 134th and KUB, including his best friends Bruce, Harry, and Frank. He carried the nickname Grumpy because of his penchant for playing pratical jokes and for his surprisingly dry sense of humor. Many people say he always kept them on their toes and generally created lots of good trouble. He loved to travel, and he visited many places around the United States and the world. He was an extraordinary singer, and was part of the gospel group Grey Ridge, prior to starting a quartet with his wife Sandra. They performed at various places locally. He loved Scotland, where he had been stationed on the dry dock in the Holy Loch (Dunoon), and, throughout his early and middle years, visited with his former family and friends there as frequently as possible. He loved his family, and was thankful for the time he spent with Sandra and his step-family and step-sons. He adored his daughters, who picked up his sense of humor, and he remained on good terms with his prior family, including his former wife of 27 years, Morag. He is so sorely missed, and his family are very thankful for the blessing he has been in their life. They can imagine that he is not only in the heavenly choir, but is also trying to direct it.
