January 31, 1947 — December 20, 2020

Eddie Baker, age 73 of Knoxville, Tennessee, and formally of Warriormine, West Virginia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 20, 2020, following a long battle with Black Lung Disease. He fought a good fight, he kept the faith. He is preceded in death by his Father and Mother, the Reverend Virgil Baker and Leona Reedy Baker-Rose; brothers, Jackie Baker and Carlos Baker; sisters, Bernice Pennington and Irene Casio and sister-in-law Brenda Baker-Monroe. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Ruth Ward Baker of Knoxville, Tennessee, formally of Warriormine, West Virginia; daughters, Angie Baker-Pratt and husband Fred Pratt of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Tina Perdue and husband Kenny Purdue of Tazewell, Virginia; grandchildren, Reverend Zachary Baker and wife Mycah Baker of LaFollette, Tennessee, Haley Hurley and husband Makellan Hurley of Springville, Virginia, Canaan Pratt and Fiance’ Taylor Coleman of Knoxville, Tennessee and Caleb Pratt of Knoxville, Tennessee; great-grandchildren Logan Scott and Hayden Epperson; Sisters Shirley Smelchner of Millertown, Deleware and Maydene Peterson and husband Pete Peterson of Squire, West Virginia; brothers, Hershel Baker and wife Carolyn Baker of Linkington, North Carolina and Freddie Baker of Berwind, West Virginia. Eddie was a retired coal miner where he served as a Mine Foreman and Fire Boss. He was also a proud veteran having served as a Sergeant in the United States Army and fought for our Country in the Vietnam War where he was injured. Eddie was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Metal and Vietnam Campaign Medal for his heroic efforts in the Vietnam War. Eddie loved his God, his family, and his Country. Eddie always put his family before himself and was a great example of a Godly man. His pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. In his younger years, Eddie loved to deer and Coon hunt. He always loved the outdoors. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from 5-7 pm at Dante Church of God, 410 Dante School Road, Knoxville, Tennessee 37918 with a funeral service following at 7:00 pm. Officiating the services will be his grandson, the Reverend Zachary Baker, His pastor, the Reverend David Snyder and his nephew, the Reverend Spencer Oxford. Honorary pallbearers include Lyle Rardon, Jay Collier, Billy Lane, Tom Reed, Steve Perkins and Elliott Tinsley. A Graveside Service with full military honors will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 1:00 pm in the mausoleum of Grandview Memory Gardens, 38659 Gov. G C Peery Highway, Bluefield, Virginia 24605. Everyone is asked to assemble at the cemetery by 12:45 pm for the service. Pallbearers will include Fred Pratt, Kenny Perdue, Zachary Baker, Canaan Pratt, Caleb Pratt, Wesley Baker and Roger White, Jr. Condolences for the family may be expressed at www.mynattfh.com Mynatt Funeral Home, 2829 Rennoc Road, Knoxville, Tennessee 37918 is honored to serve the Baker family.
