Dorothy Lee Tipton passed away December 16, 2014, at the age of 89. She was affectionately known as Dot and was born on October 3, 1925 to Marion Elizabeth Semis Cooper and Edward Ross Cooper, both deceased. Her birthplace was Fountain City, Tennessee. She attended Gresham Elementary and the old Knoxville High School where she met her true love, Benny Tipton. They were married 48 years and Dot was able to be a stay-at-home mom. They were members of Beaver Brook Country Club where she joined the women’s 18 hole golfing group. On many occasions, she travelled with her buddies, “The Golfing Grannies”, to state golfing tournaments or weekend trips covering Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia. Dot and her husband, Benny also travelled with golfing couples to many locations. Dot was a member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. She was a sweet, delightful lady who enjoyed life. She often said “Live Well, Love Often and Laugh Much.” She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Benny Tipton; two brothers, Edward (Pat) Ross Cooper II and Arthur (Ott) S. Cooper. She is survived by her daughters Patty Acuff and her husband the late Ray Acuff and Benita Hill and husband Barry; granddaughters, Denise Acuff Carmon, Debbie Acuff (Deceased), and Jenny Hill & great grandchildren, Clay McCoy and wife Colleen, Rayma McCoy, Aaron Qualls, Destiny Inman, and DJ Inman; great-great grandchildren, Zeek McCoy, Tipton McCoy and Peyton Williams. She had a special longtime friend, Tom Chervanak. Hats off to the employees of Heritage Assisted Living and the many special sitters who loved and took care of her. Lastly, she enjoyed her furry kitty friend, Miss Gracie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heritage Assisted Living, 273 S. Peters Rd., Knoxville, TN 37923. The family will receive friend from 3-5pm Saturday at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel. Friends and family will meet at 2:45pm Sunday at Lynnhurst Cemetery for a 3pm graveside service, Charles Fels, Priest officiating.
