Dorothy Jean Moore

October 27, 1958 — March 31, 2021

Dorothy Jean Moore “Dottie”, of Knoxville, passed away March 31, 2021. She was a loving mother, grammy, and sister. A graduate of West Hills high school in Cincinnati, OH, Director of Maintenance, housekeeping and laundry at Academy Manor Andover, MA, and sales associate at Home Depot 731, Knoxville, TN. My Momma Jean. Her happiness was found in spending time with the ones she loved. The best days of her life were when she became a mom, when I got married and when she became a Grammy to Brandon, Preston and Caroline. We knew without a doubt that she loved and treasured us. She was known for her beautiful red hair and was so excited that one of her grandsons would carry it on. She was a trailblazer. She was the first female director of maintenance in the region. She always worked hard, did what was right and you could count on her to stand up for what she believed in. She was loyal and selfless. She demonstrated this when she gave up her successful career and moved to Knoxville to live with me. She loved big and treated friends like family. She hated the thought of people not having a family to spend the holidays with. Her home and table always had an open invitation and she was never put off by last minute additions. The more the merrier. She was competitive and loved all sports. She was a pitcher in softball and played in high school and in co-ed leagues as an adult. She loved to strike men out who thought women couldn’t play. She was a huge Tom Brady fan. She never missed my games or practices when I was growing up and she continued to be on the sidelines and at the ice hockey rink, blowing her signature finger and thumb whistle or banging on the glass cheering for Brandon and Preston. She was up for anything. She loved to travel, especially going on cruises. Lots of fun and laughs were had during the sibling reunions in Gatlinburg. She hated Disney World but would always go because she would never miss the chance to be with family and friends. She had a can do attitude. She could make or fix anything. She enjoyed crafts, quilting, floating in her pool, and she loved Christmas decorations so much so they would often be up, with lights on, until March. She was funny and loved to laugh. She would make up silly songs like her famous Hotdogs song and sing them loud. She enjoyed teaching her grandchildren how to build, do home repairs, cook, and swim. They always looked forward to spending the night with her and having their annual Fourth of July, New Years Eve, and Super Bowl parties along with Christmas scavenger hunts. She was without question the best Mom and Grammy we will ever know. She will be deeply missed and we look forward to reuniting with her again one day in Heaven. She leaves behind her daughter, Michelle Leigh (John A.) Martin, grandchildren; Brandon Adam, Preston Charles, and Caroline JeanAnne, siblings; Terry (Florence) Moore, Bobbi (Jeff) Koopman, James Moore, and Joanna (James) Streicher.
