Dorothy Ernestine Hicks

Dorothy Cowden “Dot” Hicks, age 92, of Knoxville passed away on October 3, 2013. She graduated from Knoxville High School and attended Christ United Methodist Church. Married June 15, 1948 to Jessie Lee Hicks of Paris, Tennessee who was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service. This career brought them to Nashville, Tennessee until 1959, Greenville, Tennessee until 1960, Dover, New Hampshire until 1965, Columbus, Ohio until 1971, Raleigh, North Carolina until 1982 and retirement brought them back home to Knoxville. She was a devoted wife of 65 years and mother of three children. Survived by children, Harry Michael and wife Molly Hicks, of Gatlinburg, Carol Yvonne Hicks Miele of Fairfax, Virginia, and Larry Lee Hicks of Seymour, grandchildren Kristen Dorothy Miele Fowler (Rick) of Arlington, Virginia, Erin Yvonne Miele Huss (Ryan) of Fairfax, Virginia, Jonathan C. Miele of Arlington, Virginia, Michael D. Hicks of Powell, and Joseph Lee Hicks of Raleigh, North Carolina, great grandchildren Benjamin Fowler, Ila Fowler, Aiden Huss, Emma Yvonne Huss. Devoted matriarch of loving family will surely be missed. Family and friends will meet at 9:45 AM Tuesday at Lynnhurst Cemetery for graveside services at 10 AM. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Monday at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel.
