Doris Mae Norris

Doris Mae Lukkarila Norris (Dory), age 93, of Knoxville, passed away on August 4, 2021. She was born on November 14, 1927 to Julius and Minnie Lukkarila in Ashtabula, Ohio, and grew up there in a large family of Finnish heritage. Anyone who knew Dory knew she was witty, creative and willing to give of her time and talents. She was a gifted crafter and tole painter. She loved golf and had many friends in the 9- and 18-hole groups at Beaver Brook Country Club and Whittle Springs Golf Club. She was a devoted member of the Rocky Top chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters. She was dedicated to her church groups such as the Bazaar Babes and Pairs & Spares. To her last day, she was curious, put others ahead of herself, showed interest in the stories of people's lives and, in spite of difficulties, expressed thanksgiving to God for her many blessings. Preceded in death by sisters: Astrid Sinkler (Jerry) and Christine Dibell (Kenny), brothers: Carl Lukkarila (Norma), Rolf Lukkarila, Wesley Lukkarila, husband Charles Bandy, husband Avery H. Norris, Jr., son Michael Bandy (Kathy), and step-son David Norris. She will be greatly missed by her surviving family: sister Ruth Knudson, sons: Carl Bandy, Jon Bandy (Nancy), and Tim Bandy (Sherry), daughters: Caren Goode (Roger) and Melanie Leach (David), step-son Pat Norris (Karen), grandchildren: Daniel Bandy (Rachel), Scott Bandy (Cindy), Matthew Defenderfer (Jessamyn), Kari Gatlin (Dustin), Trudi Johnson (Ron), Aidan Leach (Leah), Caleb Leach (Kristen), Olivia Mertz (Justin), Emily Roberts (Sam), Mandy Stanuszek (Mike), and Krissie Vailolo (Junior). She also has twenty great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, August 14th at 10:30 a.m. at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel.
