In loving memory of Dimple Jones Thompson, born on April 19, 1934, in Knoxville, TN, peacefully passed away on April 4, 2024. Dimple was cherished by all who knew her, embodying a true servant's heart and a deep love for helping others. She dedicated many years of her life to serving her community, by driving a school bus for Knox County schools and retired from the United States Post Office after years of dedicated service.
Dimple's love for life knew no bounds. Even in retirement, she remained active, finding joy in driving a school bus well into her 80s and traveling the country in her motorhome alongside her husband, Wayne. She devoted her time to volunteering with SCAN (Senior Citizens Assistance Network) through the Knox County Sheriff's Office, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others. Her adventurous spirit led her to participate in various activities, including playing in the Senior Co-ed Softball league, and line dancing. Dimple's zest for life was infectious, inspiring those around her to embrace every moment with enthusiasm and joy.
Dimple was the youngest of 13 children, a proud mother of six children, a grandmother to thirteen grandchildren, and a great-grandmother to sixteen great-grandchildren.
Dimple was preceded in death by her father Walter Jones, mother Bertha Ann Capps Jones, brothers, sisters, husband, Wayne Thompson, her son Steve Thompson, her grandson Nicholas Shorter, her great-grandson Joshua John Waldrop, her son-in-law John Waldrop, and beloved companion Ed Bradley.
She is survived by her children: Kathy Waldrop. Janet Shorter (Larry), Lisa Hurst (Jeff), Cindy Browning (Ed), and James Thompson, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. Her love and legacy will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday Evening, April 7, 2024, at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel with funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM. Reverend Mike Vincent officiating. The family and friends will meet by 10:45 AM Monday, April 8, 2024, at Greasy Hollow Cemetery (Claiborne County, TN) for an 11:00 AM interment service.
