Derek Shane Powers

Derek Shane Powers, age 40, of Powell, TN was welcomed home to his grandmother’s loving arms and family on Monday, June 26, 2023, to watch over those left behind. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, George Carroll; adored grandmother, Jessie Carroll; grandmother, Margie Powers; uncle and aunt, Danny and Gwen Carroll; and great-niece, Natalie Williams. He is survived by his life partner, Ben Humphrey; mother and father, Darlene and Dean Hutchens; sisters Tabitha (James) Robbins and Misty (Kurt) Mcleland; nieces and nephews, Taylor (Emily) Walker, Sarah-Madeline (Chris) Allen, Krista (Mark) Williams, David Parks, and Kathrine Parks, several great-nieces and great-nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, whom he loved dearly. Derek, or “Shane” as family called him, was the life of the party. He loved to dance, have a good time, and to travel. He could make friends wherever he went. He also knew the value of honest, hard work and did so wholeheartedly. Family was always important to him, no matter what. He would go above and beyond for anyone he considered to be family. He was our ray of sunshine whom we loved with all our hearts. The dimming of his light will be felt by many. Family will receive friends 6:00-8:00pm Friday, July 7, 2023, at Mynatt Funeral Home, Powell Chapel (2000 Powell Drive, Powell, TN 37849) with a Celebration of Life to follow at 8:00pm. Family and friends will meet 10:45am Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Farmers Grove Cemetery (133 Farmers Grove Ln, Clinton, TN 37716) for an 11:00am interment.
