Delores Minerva (Irwin) Fillinger slipped peacefully into the arms of Jesus with a hymn on her lips February 23, 2022. She was attended by her children throughout her final days, reminiscing about a life well-lived and singing old songs, like “Mockingbird Hill”, which she performed on the radio at the age of 15. Affectionately known as “Dee” by all, she inspired others with her selfless determination, unwavering devotion, and boundless love. She thrived as a military spouse to husband Jack; as the “cake lady” in Marion, Ohio; and later as a staunch advocate for senior citizens in Marysville, Ohio -- she humbly served and improved every community she lived in. She was preceded by her husband, Jack Norman Fillinger, children William Dennis Irwin and Linda Joy (Fillinger) Carr. She is survived by children Rita (Fillinger) Thomas, Laura (Fillinger) Self, Randy Fillinger, Beverly Bickel and Karen Garrett. She is beloved and treasured by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held at Mynatt Funeral Home, 2829 Rennoc Rd, Knoxville, TN on September 10, 2022 at 10:00am EST. All who were touched by her are welcome to attend.
