Delores Martin Amaral was born in 1937 in New Bedford, MA. to George and Mary Martin who both immigrated to the United States from Sao Miguel, Azores.
Her siblings, Manny, Mary, Laura, Margaret, George and Linda have all preceded her into the kingdom.
Delores began working as a stitcher in a mill in New Bedford's thriving garment district.
She met Tony Amaral at a dance at St. Killian's Church, she liked his crazy sense of humor, like rest was history. They were age 17 and 18 when they married and stayed together for 69 years and Tony's passing last year.
They told mom she couldn't have kids, but eventually my brother Eric arrived, and I showed up 4 years later.
The couple worked hard and bought their first home for $10,000 in Acushnet, MA and then built a larger home in Dartmouth, MA for their growing family.
Mom worked in mills as a stitcher most of her life and also had her own custom sewing business.
She loved to read and had a huge library. She was an amazing gardener. She loved cooking and entertaining friends and family. She also loved dogs, her favorites were Mickey and Gaylord.
She got dragged on lots of adventures with my father: skiing, sailing, RVing, you name it.
She was the best mom ever and taught us to be honest, to work hard and to move on and not feel sorry for ourselves when hard times came our way.
She gave us unconditional love and was the rock of our family. She will leave behind a hole but we are grateful she is with Jesus, her husband Tony and son Eric.
She leaves behind her daughter, Lisa (David) Oelerich; grandsons, Casey (Bethany) Souza and Neil (Meghan) Souza; great-grandsons, Charlie and Benny Souza.
The family requests no services to be held at this time.
Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel is honored to serve the family of Delores Martin Amaral.
