Katherine Sturgeon Longmire

December 10, 1933 — March 18, 2025

Knoxville

Della “Katherine” Sturgeon Longmire, age 91, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. Preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Eugene "Scottie" Longmire; parents, James and Mary Sturgeon; brothers: Larry, Jimmy, R.C. and Jewel Ray Sturgeon; and sisters: Hazel Pauline Sturgeon, Lucy Bernice Clark, and Linda Thomas.

She is survived by her daughters, Robin Gresham and Mary Nolan; granddaughters, Tara Nolan and Amelia Gresham, both of whom lit up her world

from the moment they entered it; son-in-law and special caregiver, Brent Gresham; brother, Chester "Dwight` (Vanessa) Sturgeon; sisters Patty (Leroy) Shipley and Lucille Sims; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and special neighbors. Katherine testified that a small voice told her “It’s all right now" after she answered the altar call during a revival service at Burkhart School when she was a teenager. She was a member of Texas Valley Baptist Church and was retired from Standard Knitting Mill. Katherine faced a life of responsibility early as she stepped up at the age of 22 and finished the raising of 5 of her younger siblings after the untimely death of her own mother. Hers was not an easy life, but she exuded God's love as she reached out to others in need of help, hope, and love. She selflessly set aside her own wants and dreams to enable others to attain their own.

The family will receive friends Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel. Family and friends will meet Sunday, March 23, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel and travel in procession to Fort Sumter Community Cemetery for a 3:00 pm graveside service officiated by Rev. Charlie Tindell. An online obituary may be viewed, and condolences made at www.mynattfh.com.
