Dean Allen Sumter, age 85, passed away peacefully at his home on January 25, 2025.
Dean was a lifetime member of Salem Baptist Church, a Mason at Bright Hope Lodge #557 F&AM, and member of the Tennessee Sons of the Revolution. An avid golfer, he was a member of Beaver Brook Country Club for over 40 years. Dean was co-owner of Sumter Brothers Battery.
He is preceded in death by his wife, June Henderlight Sumter; parents, Oscar and Ruby Sumter; brother, Tom Sumter; and sister, Mabel Holsenback.
He is survived by his son, Mark Sumter and wife Michelle Harris; daughter, Lisa Sumter; brother-in-law, Jim Holsenback; devoted friend, Jane Vogt and her family; as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 29th, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 30th, 2025, at Fort Sumter Community Cemetery, Rev. Toby Everett officiating.
The family wishes to thank UT Hospice for their care and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to UT Hospice or Salem Baptist Church.
