David Allan Petersen

April 17, 1938 — March 21, 2016

David Allan Petersen, age 77, of Knoxville, passed away March 21, 2016, with complications from cancer. Born in Chicago, attended Decatur High School in Decatur, Illinois and Milliken University. He worked in the trucking industry for over 55 years in sales and marketing, most recently for his friends at Fraley and Schilling. David served his country in the Army. He was an avid golfer and photographer. He was a master and judge in the Photographic Society of America. He enjoyed tennis and captained many tennis teams. He was a Southeastern Conference tennis umpire at the University of Tennessee for 11 years. He was a member of Knox Area Model Railroaders. Survived by loving wife of 33 years, Susie Stephens Petersen; sons, Bill and Mary Petersen, Keith and Kristin Blanton all of Knoxville; daughter, Suzanne and Joe McCreight, of Basel Switzerland; grandchildren, Britton Petersen, Geneva and Ellie McCreight, Cooper and Kolby Blanton; brother-in-law, Floyd Stephens, Jr. and wife Linda; and nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Dr. Mitchell Martin and Dr. Richard Antonucci and nurses at Tennessee Cancer Specialists and to the nurses and doctors at North Knoxville Medical Center, and our friend, Dr. Doug Leahy.The family will receive friends 4:00 – 7:00 pm Friday, March 25, 2016, at Powell United Methodist Church, 423 W. Emory Road, Powell, TN 37849 with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to PUMC Food Pantry or PUMC Children’s Ministry. Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel in charge of arrangements.
