Dr. Damon Patterson, of Knoxville, Tennessee, a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and preacher of the gospel, gently slipped into the arms of his heavenly Father on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at the age of 93 years. He was born on March 16, 1928, in Balkan, Kentucky in a mining camp to Fred Gordon and Zora Fairzinia Patterson. On June 30, 1945, Damon married the love of his life, Lois Izetta Ramsey. During their 65 years of marriage, God blessed him and Ms. Lois with three children Jenny, Fred, and Dave.
Damon was saved during a revival at the age of 12 years and was called to preach at the age of 24. He announced his calling on Sunday morning, July 20, 1952, at his home church in Monroe, Michigan. He preached his first sermon later that evening from John 3:16. There were 3 people saved that night.
Damon was ordained on January 10, 1954. Pastor Damon pastored East Cumberland Avenue Baptist in Middlesboro, Kentucky for 5 ½ years. He attended Lincoln Memorial University while pastoring this church and received his Bachelor of Arts degree, as well as a Doctorate of Divinity degree in later years. In 1960, he became pastor of Corryton Baptist in Corryton, Tennessee, where he pastored for 23 years. In 1967, Pastor Damon received his Doctorate from Lincoln Memorial University. In 1982, Dr. Patterson began his 17-year service to Monroe Baptist Church in Monroe, Michigan until he retired in 2001. On April 1, 2001, Dr. Patterson became the Associate Pastor of Clear Springs Baptist Church, in Corryton, Tennessee, where he remained a faithful member until his homegoing.
One of Dr. Patterson’s favorite Bible verses comes from Philippians 2:5-9 “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:” Dr. Patterson served His Lord faithfully by sharing God’s Word in more than 120 churches, in over 275 revivals, in 11 states, and in 4 countries. Dr. Patterson’s life was not only marked by his longevity, but was characterized by his integrity, humility, wisdom, and his love for the gospel.
Dr. Patterson was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lois Izetta Ramsey Patterson. Survived by his children, Virginia Carol (Richard Zachary), Frederic William (Irene Ogg), and David Bryan (Janice Lamb). Grandchildren are Mark (Jennifer), Michael (Kristen) Zachary, Damon Ernest Patterson, Amanda (Martin) Scobey, Adam (Kristen) Patterson; Great grandchildren are Alan (Jillian) Zachary, Jessica (Tony) Griggs, Jacob (Makayla) Zachary, Landon Zachary, Lauren and Leah Zachary, Damon Knox Patterson, David and Lucy Scobey, Luke, Caroline, William Knox Patterson.
A call of convenience will be held on Friday, February 18th, from 9:00am-2:30pm at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel. Following the call of convenience the family will receive friends from 4:00pm – 7:00pm at Clear Springs Baptist Church in Corryton, with a worship service immediately following at 7:00pm. The service will be streamed live from the church Facebook page, YouTube channel, and at ClearSpringsBaptist.net. Dr. Jerry Vittatoe, Rev. Justin Pratt, and Rev. Mike Nolan will be officiating the service; and the Clear Springs Baptist Church Choir and Orchestra will provide the special music.
Family and friends will meet at 10:15am on Saturday, February 19th at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel and proceed to the Greenwood Cemetery for the graveside interment service at 11:00am. Pallbearers will be Phil Babelay, Kelly Beeler, Terry Cooper, Rev. Paul Baird, Mike Lakin, and Philip Graves. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Clear Springs Baptist Church. The family wants to express their love and special appreciation to the Clear Springs Baptist Church family and the director, staff and friends of Trinity Hills Assisted Living Center.
