Curtis Ray Honeycutt

Curtis "Curt" Ray Honeycut - age 76, born February 6, 1942, passed away on August 17th, 2018 in Madisonville at the home of his brother and sister in law, Jim and Dixie Honeycutt. His permanent residence was Avon, North Carolina where he and his wife, Carolyn, had resided for 14 years prior to returning to East Tennessee. He loved his country, was patriotic and proudly served 24 years in The United States Navy, retiring as a Senior Chief on June 30, 1984, completing 21 patrols on 4 submarines, the Tecumseh, the Ray (Plank Owner), the Edison and the Pulaski. He was proud of his naval career and enjoyed remembering and sharing stories about his many years under the deep blue sea defending our nation. Upon his retirement from the Navy, he was employed by and retired from EG&G in Tooele, Utah. He and his wife then moved to Avon, NC, remaining close to the ocean where Curt enjoyed taking his pet, Sam, for walks on the beach. He was loved and admired in his Outer Banks community as someone who was always there to lend a helping hand no matter what the need might be. He had a huge heart for people and animals. He was an avid reader especially enjoying books about The Civil War and history. He is preceded in death by his parents, Casteen Honeycutt and Willie Edgar Honeycutt; sisters, Louise Russell and Yvonne Smith. He leaves to mourn his passing; wife of 55 years, Carolyn Honeycutt; sons, Willie Edgar (Will) Honeycutt (wife Holly), James Leonard (Jim) Honeycutt; daughter, Cassandra Honeycutt Perez (husband Robert); grandchildren, Heather McCarl (husband Taylor) and Raymone Perez; brothers, R.L. and Jim (wife Dixie); sisters, Juanita Deaver (husband Steve), Phyllis Simpson (husband Butch) and Brenda Moore (husband Tom) and his beloved pet, Sam. Receiving of friends will be held Sunday, August 19, 2018 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City with funeral service to follow, Rev. Charlie Hyder officiating. Burial will be on Monday, August 20, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Oak Grove Cemetery, Oak Grove.
