Cordelia “Cordy” Caroline Bridges Pointer passed away August 17, 2014. She was born June 6, 1923, at home in Anderson County, Tennessee. Cordy became a member of First Baptist Church of Knoxville in 1951 where she has served in many different capacities over the years. She spent most of her career with Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in the Division of Forestry, Fisheries, and Wildlife in Norris. After her retirement, she was involved in a number of volunteer activities, some of which include positions with Quota International, Inc., AARP, Knoxville-Knox County Council on Aging, East Tennessee Council on Aging and Disability, and the Martha Washington Heights Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Lucy Bridges, sister Opal Bridges, and grandson James Pointer III. Survivors include husband of 68 years James Pointer, Sr., son James Pointer, Jr., daughter Jane Pointer, and grandchildren Mason and Carolina. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the James and Cordelia Pointer Scholarship Trust Fund, The University of Tennessee Foundation, 2021 Stephenson Drive, Knoxville, Tennessee 37996-4514. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 20, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Knoxville, 510 W Main St., with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m. Family and friends will meet 9:45 a.m., Thursday, August 21, at Highland Memorial Cemetery, 4300 Sutherland Ave., in the Garden of Gethsemene section for interment at 10 a.m. Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
