Clyde “Rip” Van Winkle, Jr., age 71, of Maryville, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, February 15th, 2017. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Clyde was a United States Army Veteran and served in the Vietnam War. He worked for the Knoxville police Department from 1969 to 1974. Clyde went back to the Army for a total of 11 years. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 18 years as a letter carrier, union stewart and a chaplain. After retiring, he had a homeless Ministry of Knoxville. He was a Deacon at Holston Hills Freewill Baptist Church. He leaves behind a wife of 44 years, Phyllis Prewitt Van Winkle, children, Chastity (Lee) Potter, Heather (Jason) Beeler, and Jason Van Winkle, granddaughters Madison and Abby Beeler, three brothers, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. A special thank you to all of the nurses and doctors that took care of Clyde at Fort Sanders Hospital and Covenant Hospice Care. God Bless our caregiver Debbie. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 20th, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel. Family and friends will meet at 1:45 p.m. for a 2:00 p.m. committal service on Tuesday, February 21st, 2017 at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, John Sevier Highway.
