Clifford Eugene Irick

Clifford Eugene Irick, fondly known as “Blackie” of Halls Crossroads, Born April 5, 1934
went to sleep and woke up in the arms of Jesus, at 89 years young on, Saturday, September 16, 2023.

Clifford was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Florence (Hensley) Irick of Maynardville, the love of his life-his wife of 67 years, Norma Katherine (Meyers) Irick, his dear sister, Mildred (Irick) Statzer and brother-in-law, Don Statzer, and brothers Bill Hensley, Willet Irick and Ralph Irick.

He is survived by his three daughters,

Nancy (Gene) Seay, Sharon Moody, and Angelia (Jason) Hutchens. Five grandchildren, Joshua Seay, Nicholas (Tiffany) Seay, Matthew (Kerrie) Moody, Sydney Worley, and Samuel Collins and five Great grandchildren, Carter, Eli, Kennedy and Jordan Seay and Ericka Moody. Brother-in-law, Denver Meyers and Sister-in-law, Joan Keck, and many nieces and nephews and friends.

He was saved as a young adult and was of the Baptist faith and a member of Texas Valley church.

Clifford was a welder by trade, he retired from Hicks & Ingle Steel Workers in 1985. Working the majority of his career at Y-12 in Oak Ridge. He was a Proud member of Local # 5 and anyone that knew him well, knew he loved his country and all things American Made.  He often declared that he didn’t much care to have “those foreign” vehicles parked in his driveway.
He was passionate about his lawn and enjoyed his yard work.  His children called him stubborn because he wouldn’t let others help him, but he loved and was insistent about his independence. Aside from his love of taking care of his lawn, he was a member of NRA and The Model A Club. He was often told that he had a memory like an elephant and he could recall tales of long ago. We’re going to miss your stories, Dad.

We are so grateful for your love and the way you provided and took care of your family.

You often said the only thing you knew was to work, but your life said much more.  Your bond was your word. You were loyal, and you faithfully lived your values. Your teachings to your family were endless, and your method was simple, you led by example. You were strong in body, in spirit and in commitment.  You fulfilled every obligation you undertook.  And, you never had an ounce of scandal about you.

Yours was a life well lived and may your reward be great. Your memory and the love we have for you will be eternal. You are a loss that nothing can replace.

The family would like to thank Clinch River Home Health, UT Hospice and Nurse Corina (who was an Earth Angel) for the loving care extended to our dad and the support given to our family.

The receiving of family and friends will be at Mynatt’s Funeral Home Halls Chapel on Wednesday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 PM followed by Funeral Service.  Rev. Bill McCarter and Rev. Tommy Louthan will be officiating the service. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home on Thursday, September 21 at 12:15 PM for a procession to Texas Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Gene Seay, Jason Hutchens, Josh Seay, Nic Seay, Matt Moody and Sam Collins.

“That man is a success - who has lived well, laughed often and loved much, who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of children, who has filled his niche and accomplished his task, who leaves the world better than he found it, who has never lacked appreciation of the world’s beauty or failed to express it, who looked for the best in others and gave the best he had.” - Unknown
