Clay Edwin Grubb, 79, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born on July 20, 1938 in Lee Springs, Tennessee to Luther and Edna Grubb. Clay grew up in Grainger County, Tennessee where he attended school and worked on the family farm. In 1958, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Corp. He spent much of his enlistment overseas in Germany until his Honorable Discharge in 1962. Clay worked for many years at Lay Packing Company and Averitt Express before retiring. He was a longtime member of Fairview Baptist Church in Tater Valley as well as a member of the Corryton Masonic Lodge, Kerbela Shrine, Arema Chapter No. 11 Order of the Eastern Star and 32nd Degree Scottish Rite. Clay is survived by his wife Cheerful (Dalton) Grubb; his son, Mark Grubb; his daughter and son-in-law, Melody and Brent Boling; his beloved grandson, Peyton Boling; his brothers and sisters in law, Johnny and Jane Grubb, Lee Wayne and Dorma Grubb, Carolyn Grubb; his sisters and brothers in law, Roberta and Ron Rose, Annette and Damon Farrow, Judy and Jackie Beeler, Louise Patterson, Wayne Hayes; several nieces, nephews and extended family. Clay was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Edna Grubb, his brothers Willie and Roy Grubb, his sisters Lois Merrie Grubb, Anna Pearl Looney and Ella Ruth Hayes. A graveside service will be held at Graveston Cemetery in Corryton at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 17, 2017, with the Reverend Gary Beeler and Reverend Vincent Jones presiding. Pallbearers are Wayne Barkman, Dean Brantley, Mark Brantley, Frank Dalton, J. Gordon Dalton, Gary Grubb, Clay Hanson and Randy Sewell. Leroy Keys and Paul Stanford will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 North Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida 33607.
