Charlie Sharp

March 24, 1952 — September 18, 2021

Charles Benton Sharp (Charlie), age 69, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021, in his home surrounded by loved ones. Shortly after retiring in 2019, Charlie was diagnosed with Sarcoma Cancer and for two years he courageously fought this disease with strength, perseverance, and dignity, never once complaining. Charlie was born to Ruth and Benton Sharp of Knoxville, Tennessee, on March 24, 1952, who preceded him in death. He is survived by the love of his life and devoted wife of 48 years, Kathy Sharp; his precious daughter Jill Martinez and loyal son-in-law John; two loving grandchildren Levi and Max; devoted brothers, Dwight Sharp (Marti) and Mike Sharp (Linda); and caring sister Vicki Hughes (Billy); and several nieces and nephews. Charlie had a long and successful career in commercial roofing and building materials, most recently working with Commercial Roofing Specialties of Chattanooga, Tennessee. He represented various areas around the region and was beloved by his customers. He enjoyed playing golf and attending the annual trips with his golf buddies. He was an avid fan of all sports, especially the New York Yankees and the Tennessee Vols. He and Kathy enjoyed traveling and made many wonderful trips with special friends and his loving daughter and family. Friends will remember him for his quick wit and sports trivia knowledge, as well as his fun-loving nature and unique ability to never meet a stranger. Charlie loved life and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. As one special niece said, “Charlie was always the coolest person in the room without even realizing he was.” Charlie was a member of Two Rivers Church, having accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age at Union Baptist Church. Special thanks to Dr. Jennifer Piel, Dr. James Mosley and the U.T. Cancer staff, Home Healthcare, and Hospice for their exceptional care. Most of all, thanks to his many special friends and neighbors who wrapped their arms around him with love, support, and prayers during his illness.
