Charles William Tompkins, age 85 of Knoxville passed away June 25, 2022. He was born to the late William Earl Tompkins and Reba Louise Peterson Tompkins in Caryville, TN. He served the United States Navy from 1954 to 1958 in the USS Charr (SS328) submarine where he earned his dolphins. He retired in 1998 as the Personal Computer Maintenance Shop Supervisor from Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He was a member of the Alpha Lodge No. 376, Free and Accepted Masons in Clinton. He was a member at Salem Baptist Church in Halls. He is preceded in death by his brother David Earl Tompkins. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Fay Overbay Tompkins; son, Chuck Tompkins; granddaughters Melanie Tompkins Dorminey (Wes) of Loganville, GA, Heather Tompkins Densky (Jaron) of Knoxville; great-granddaughter Eliza Densky; siblings Lee Tompkins of South Carolina, Louis Tompkins of Danielsville, GA, Carolyn Tompkins Crabtree (Johnny) of Oak Ridge; sister-in-law Rosa Tompkins of Douglasville, GA; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 29, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 pm with a service officiated by Rev. Allan James and Rev. Toby Everett following at 7:00 pm at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel 4131 E. Emory Rd. Knoxville, TN 37938. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 am Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel for a procession to Lynnhurst Cemetery for an 11:00 am graveside service. Pallbearers: Jaron Densky, Wes Dorminey, Jim McManus, Stan Nalley, David Rowden, and Todd Overbay.
